Project Information

Grousemount Wind Farm, the amalgamation of two previously permitted developments: Barnastooka (2010) and Grousemount (2012), received planning permission as a Strategic Infrastructure Development from An Bord Pleanala in June, 2016. For your information, please see all relevant Planning and Environmental documents submitted, and considered as a part of the An Bord Pleanala application.

Project Outline

Once completed the project, will comprise of four main elements:

  • The development of turbine foundations and site access roads including bridges over Roughty and Sullane Rivers.
  • The construction of the new Coomataggart 110 kV substation (located on the windfarm site).
  • The installation of 30km underground cable from the wind farm site which will connect to the existing electricity grid via Ballyvouskill 220 kV substation near Millstreet, Co. Cork.
  • The delivery and installation of 38 wind turbines, with a combined generating capacity of 114 Megawatts (MW) it will be capable of meeting the electricity needs of approximately 70,000 households. (Source: www.iwea.com)
